Capt. Ian
Ian grew up in Grand Rapids, Michigan where fishing quickly took over his life at a young age. Annual trips to Cape Cod to visit family introduced him to the region’s remarkable marine ecosystem and ignited a lifelong connection to these waters. After relocating to Cape Cod, he spent five formative years at the well known Goose Hummock Shop. During that time, he immersed himself in learning and refining techniques across a wide range of fisheries. Despite the diversity of opportunities, fly fishing remained his true passion.
Ian has spent the majority of his life on the water and has been fortunate to fish internationally in destinations such as Mexico, Belize, Thailand, and Spain. Still, as a full-time Cape Cod resident, it’s the pursuit of striped bass, false albacore, and bluefin tuna throughout the rips, bays, and open Atlantic waters of New England that excites him most each season. What started as early mornings casting from docks and jetties turned into an obsessive pursuit of understanding tides, tying new patterns, following migrations, and tracking the subtle shifts that separate a slow day from an unforgettable one. After earning his Captain's License and running boats for reputable charter companies along Cape Cod, he recognized he had a love for guiding and a calling for life on the water. As a conservation-minded angler and captain, he is deeply committed to protecting the fisheries he depends on and loves through responsible and sustainable practices.
Some notable accomplishments of his include the successful targeting of two bluefin on fly. Including a 61”x41” butter ball with close friend, Zento. Additionally, Ian holds the current length World Record Albie (Little Tunny) on fly on 20lb tippet at 90cm.
His curiosity for the unknown of what tomorrow's tide may bring keeps him eager to get on the water and begin the search.
